December 2006... We sent out Holiday packages to all 170 solciers from the 1451st Transportation Unit based out of Boone, NC.  Thanks to everyone in the community that helped!

Above are some photos of the men and women from the 1451st with their packages.  We got so much positive feedback from the unit - on how it touched them knowing that strangers would give of themselves to help ease their lonliness during the holidays.

We were able to send each 170 soldiers the following:

  • $10 phone card
  • 2 (1/2 lb) of fudge
    Peppermint & Chocolate
  • Pack of collector racing cards
  • 200 bars of soap
  • letters/cards from school kids (click to see some of them)
  • personalized greeting cards
  • candy canes
  • ...in holiday gift bags

"I would just like to thank everyone for the Christmas goodies that I received last year. This was my third deployment but the first time anyone has taken time out of their busy schedule to get Christmas bags together for everyone.

It can be a very depressing time of the year especially when you have children and grandchildren - and you want to be home for the holidays.

When we got those bags it meant so much that people back home was thinking of us and that even though we were so far from home that we still had that taste of home especially with the fudge, yummy! "

On top of all of this, a check for $1900 was given to the family readiness group - to help the soldiers families at home. Click on the following links - for recap of 2006's project
